Overview: Coaching is an effective tool for managers to deploy in their efforts to assist employees succeed, and especially help employees increase their skills and their potential opportunities for promotions or lateral moves to more interesting positions. Managers & supervisors need to be familiar with ways to provide effective supportive coaching to their employees.
The first step in any effort to improve employee performance is coaching. Coaching is part of the day-to-day interaction between a supervisor and an employee who reports to him or her. Coaching can provide positive feedback regarding employee contributions and alternatively can bring performance issues to an employee’s attention.
